Public Advisory: Fraudulent Calls Falsely Representing Digital Government and Service NL

The Department of Digital Government and Service NL has been informed that residents of the province are receiving automated telephone calls claiming to be from the legal branch of the department. These calls are fraudulent and residents should hang up immediately.

While Caller ID is a useful function, the information displayed can be altered by criminals. Never rely on the displayed information only to confirm the identity of the caller whether it be an individual, company or a government entity, even if it appears to be from a local number.

Anyone who receives a suspicious communication should immediately report it to the Anti-Fraud Centre of Canada or call 1-888-495-8501.
