Fatality in Stephenville Leads to Occupational Health and Safety Charges

The Department of Digital Government and Service NL announced today that Pomerleau Inc. has been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Charges arise from an incident that occurred on August 27, 2019 in Stephenville. A worker suffered fatal injuries while painting piping near the ceiling of a building under construction. The investigation was conducted by the Occupational Health and Safety branch of the department.

The company has been charged with four counts that allege generally that it failed to ensure:

  1. The health, safety and welfare of its workers,
  2. The provision of the necessary instruction, training and supervision to its workers,
  3. Its workers and supervisors were familiar with the hazards, and
  4. Persons not in its employ were not exposed to health and safety hazards.

The first appearance is scheduled for September 20, 2021 at Provincial Court in Stephenville.
