Today, the Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Education, announced the latest recipients of the Safe and Caring Schools Special Project Awards, which recognize the many schools that go above and beyond to create safe, caring and inclusive learning environments for all students.
The Department of Education is providing $12,500 to be shared amongst 31 schools. A list of award recipients for 2021 is available here.
The awards recognize the important work of schools in establishing and maintaining safe, caring and inclusive learning environments, promoting effective efforts to create positive school climates, and sustaining safe and caring communities. The Safe and Caring Schools Policy helps to establish this through school-based protocols and practices that challenge all forms of bullying, harassment, and inappropriate behaviour and create an environment of acceptance, belonging, respect and empathy.
Quote
“Congratulations to this year’s recipients for proactively supporting positive surroundings that prevent violence and bullying, not just waiting for it to happen and respond to it. We have made great strides in this area and I believe we are getting closer to creating school environments where acceptance and inclusion are just part of our everyday reality.”
