The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Education, today released the Public Post-Secondary Education Review Report “All Hands on Deck: Responding to the Challenges of the 21st Century by Leveraging Public Post-Secondary Education.” The report is available online here.
Minister Osborne will be available to media at 2:00 p.m. today (Thursday, April 29) in the lobby of East Block, Confederation Building to discuss the report.
This independent review was completed by a committee appointed through the Independent Appointments Commission process. The committee was tasked in 2019 with providing recommendations for the development of a strategic vision of public post-secondary education.
The report makes 83 recommendations to the Provincial Government, Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic in the following categories:
- Ways to improve current approach to governance and financial accountability;
- Exploring a new funding and tuition model;
- Improving accessibility and collaboration between the institutions;
- Maximizing research and development successes and identifying shared priority areas between government and each institution;
- Creating a supportive and inclusive environment;
- Providing supports for underrepresented groups in the post-secondary education community; and
- Opportunities for a post-secondary education system for the 21st Century.
The Provincial Government will immediately commence work to review and evaluate the recommendations. This will include engaging with Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic and other stakeholders on any recommendations with shared responsibility before actioning.
