May 28, 2021

Today, the Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Education virtually joined the Association of Early Childhood Educators to proclaim Early Childhood Educators Week, May 30 – June 5.

Early Childhood Educators Week acknowledges and celebrates the crucial role early childhood educators play in the lives of children. The knowledge and expertise of early childhood educators guide children’s early learning and development through well-planned, play-based learning and exploration of the environment, and provides essential support for families.

There are approximately 2,200 certified early childhood educators in communities throughout the province working in child care centres, family child care homes, family resource centres, educational institutions, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations.

The Provincial Government is making investments to support early childhood educators and families. Bursaries and grants up to $7,500, are available for early childhood educators who are upgrading their qualifications. There is also an income supplement for qualified ECEs working in regulated child care up to $16,900; one of the best in the country.
