Celebrating World Teachers’ Day

October 5, 2021

The dedication and contribution of teachers and educators in Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout the world are being celebrated today in recognition of World Teachers’ Day.

World Teachers’ Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) in 1994 and is celebrated annually on October 5. This year’s theme is “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.

Newfoundland and Labrador has more than 5,600 teachers who work in classroom settings and administrative roles in our province’s school system.

The Education Action Plan has provided a roadmap to improve educational outcomes. With 80 per cent of actions either completed or substantially underway and $42 million invested over the last three years, the department is steadily making improvements to the K-12 system.

Quote
“I sincerely thank all teachers and educators who have been working hard to provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment for students each and every day and I thank them for their hard work and commitment to safely and effectively navigating the pandemic. They continue to inspire students, demonstrating ingenuity and leadership during this unprecedented time.”
Honourable Tom Osborne
Minister of Education
