The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Education, joined the Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador to proclaim October as Learning Disabilities Awareness Month.

To support adult learners with learning disabilities, the Provincial Government today announced $219,243 in funding for the Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador to implement a one-year pilot project to provide customized literacy initiatives for adults with learning disabilities.

The Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the advancement of education, employment and social development of people with learning disabilities.

This initiative is supported under the Provincial Government’s five-year Adult Literacy Action Plan, designed to strengthen the literacy skills of adult Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to build a more empowered and skilled population.

The Department of Education also provides school-based services to support K-12 students with learning disabilities, including alternate format materials, assistive technology and other accommodations and individualized programming.
