Premier-Indigenous Leaders’ Roundtable Provides Forum for Presentations and Discussion on Matters of Mutual Interest

The Premier-Indigenous Leaders’ Roundtable held in Corner Brook today presented an opportunity to discuss and advance common interests and shared goals of the Provincial Government and Indigenous Governments and Organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Discussion included:

  • Friendship Centres’ mandates and roles;
  • Holidays, Monuments and Observances;
  • A report by the Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network on the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls; and
  • Ministerial Committee on Anti-Racism.

Premier Andrew Furey thanks all those who shared in the meaningful discussions.

Joining the proceedings via teleconference were: President Johannes Lampe, Nunatsiavut Government; Saqamaw Mi’sel Joe, Miawpukek First Nation; and Jennifer Hefler-Elson, Labrador Friendship Centre. Due to circumstances in the Innu communities, the Innu Nation was unable to participate in the proceedings.
