Premier Furey and Minister Osborne Congratulate Recipients of Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence

The Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Education recognize and congratulate two teachers who were presented the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence.

Laun Shoemaker, a teacher with Beachy Cove Elementary, is the 2021 recipient of a Certificate of Excellence for his “6Cs” teaching practice, incorporating “creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, citizenship, and character.” Tanya Warford, a math and science teacher at Valmont Academy in King’s Point is the recipient of a Certificate of Achievement for innovative learning supported by technology.

The Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence honour teachers across Canada for their remarkable achievements in education and for their commitment to preparing students for a digital and innovation-based economy. These awards have honoured exceptional elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines since 1994, with over 1,600 teachers honoured to date.
