The Provincial Government is providing $2 million to the Western Regional Hospital Foundation to be allocated towards a PET Scanner at the new acute care hospital in Corner Brook. The announcement was made today by the Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, and the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Immigration, Skills and Labour and MHA for Corner Brook.

Through this initiative, $2 million will be held in trust by the Western Regional Hospital Foundation. Given the changing and innovative nature of health care in this province, the funding will be released for the purchase and installation of a PET scanner upon recommendation of the cancer care providers who would deliver the care.

A Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner is a non-invasive, nuclear imaging technology that allows detailed diagnostic measurements of physiological and biochemical processes within the body.
