The Standing Committee on Public Accounts is providing an update today on its review of the report of the Auditor General on the MV Veteran and MV Legionnaire. The report was the result of a request from the Public Accounts Committee to the Auditor General in March 2018 to undertake a review of the process used to purchase the two vessels and the number of concerns related to mechanical issues since they came into service.
Since the briefing by the Auditor General and officials in September, the Public Accounts Committee has commenced a detailed examination of the Report and the departmental responses to the recommendations, which the Committee requested and received from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.
The Committee has informed officials of the Department it will be scheduling a public hearing early in 2022 with respect to matters contained in the Report and will be requesting the presence of departmental representatives at that hearing. A further update will be provided once a date and other details are confirmed.
