Support for a Growing Social Enterprise

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced nearly $66,000 for a growing social enterprise, the Farm and Market in Clarenville, to assist with the development of a community kitchen.

Funding from the Regional Development Fund will support the construction of a small building, as well as the purchase and installation of equipment for the community kitchen. Housed adjacent to Farm and Market, this community kitchen will provide commercial space for vendors on a pay per use fee to prepare their food products for the market.

This new space will allow the Farm and Market in Clarenville to offer food preparation instruction for products grown at the farm, visitor based experiences, chef appearances and healthy eating programs. Revenue will go towards the sustainability of this social enterprise.

The Farm and Market in Clarenville operates a seasonal market from June to December on a one-acre farm as well as a commercial greenhouse.

Support for this project aligns with priorities of the provincial Social Enterprise Action Plan, which outlines a commitment to support the development, expansion and enhancement of social enterprises that benefit our province.

Quotes
“The Farm and Market in Clarenville is an innovative social enterprise operating in rural Newfoundland and Labrador. Our government supports the addition of a community kitchen, as it will further develop economic opportunities and assist with building business skills among new and emerging vendors. This evolving facility continues to provide small entrepreneurs with incubator space, and I am pleased to see the expansion of wellness programming, as well as cooking and growing classes.”

“The Farm and Market in Clarenville is thrilled with the ongoing support and contribution we have received from the Provincial Government for the addition of a community kitchen. The addition of the community food kitchen is a step change as it enables the addition of food-based wellness programming, allows new Canadians and aspiring chefs to have access to a licenced kitchen and helps promote Farm to Table food experiences for tourists visiting our province. We are pushing forward to have the new facility up and running for the 2021 market season.”
