Enhancing development opportunities for tourism and hospitality businesses will help ensure the long-term viability of the industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. To help kick off Tourism Week 2021, the Provincial Government announced over $176,000 in support for five related businesses in the province.

The Wilds at Salmonier is a well-established attraction, events venue and accommodations provider, and one of the gateways to the Cape Shore. To assist with marketing and business development plans, the company has been approved for $100,000 through the Business Development Support (BDS) program. This support will assist with an improved online presence and digital marketing strategy for promoting The Wilds’ recently upgraded facilities.

For nearly 40 years, McCarthy’s Party has been providing guests with a Newfoundland and Labrador experience. Offering visitors a wide range of multi-day tours, day tours, convention services and transportation amenities, this company is a long-standing operation with a strong reputation in the marketplace. To assist with business development and marketing services, the company was approved for $34,650 through the BDS program.

The Hew & Draw Hotel and Boomstick Brewing Company in Corner Brook offers a unique boutique hotel experience, which pays homage to the city and the region, while providing amplified amenities and craft brewery under one roof. To assist with its growth and market development, the company was approved for $26,729 through the BDS program. Through these activities, the business plans to increase brand recognition of the brewery and promotion of the hotel as a joint visitor experience in the region.

Overlooking the D’lberville walking trail, the SeaGlass B&B and Studio is a four star accommodation located in New Perlican. This traditional, waterfront home possesses modern comforts with original charm. Owner Karen Smith was approved for $8,025 through the BDS program to enhance the online presence of the business, including website development, promotional material and signage.

Organized by the Stephenville Cultural Destination Committee, the Friendly Invasion is a three week event that embraces the influence of Harmon Air Force Base on Stephenville and the surrounding region. This heritage event celebrates the impact of the United States Air Force on the town, while highlighting the cultural diversity of the area. To assist with marketing initiatives for the event, the Stephenville Cultural Destination Committee was approved for $6,755 from the Regional Development Fund.

The addition of more people and program-based experiential tourism to existing infrastructure and activities is a priority for tourism development. Support for these projects demonstrates a focus on small businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador and contributes to the Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthen the province’s economic foundation.
