Support for a project announced today by the Provincial Government focuses on innovative research and development by a local technology company.

For more than 40 years, St. John’s based Instrumar Limited has been developing and commercializing leading edge products that provide powerful solutions to difficult industrial problems globally.

Instrumar is considered an industry pioneer of electromagnetic sensor technology, and has created a niche helping clients in the synthetic fiber (e.g. nylon and polyester) production industry to capture, analyze and act on quality data in real-time. The company notes its solutions provide more accurate and instantaneous results, compared to traditional industry practices that rely on lab measurements once production has finished.

Instrumar has successfully brought this innovative product to market in North America, where its technology supports the quality materials of some of the world’s leading brands in clothing, carpet and automotive interiors.

To assist with its continued product development, the company received a non-repayable contribution of $594,896 from the Provincial Government for the project. The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) is also providing a non-repayable contribution of $250,000 in funding to support this project.

With this support, Instrumar is developing enhancements to both its hardware and software to increase capability and cost-effectiveness of its solution. These improvements will open new market segments and increase demand. A portion of this funding will also support an extensive digital marketing and business development program, to bolster the company’s international growth activities.
