Women entrepreneurs play a vital role in shaping the province’s business community, contributing greatly to economic development in Newfoundland and Labrador. For over 20 years, the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) has supported women-owned businesses, as well as organizations and initiatives to advance opportunities for women in business.

The organization’s activities include one-on-one support and guidance, training, networking opportunities, research, mentoring and advocacy. To assist its continued approach to assist women entrepreneurs, NLOWE received $100,000 in funding support from the Provincial Government.

NLOWE’s programs focus on business growth, job creation and increased economic development through the starting, expansion and sustainability of businesses led by women. Through its pan provincial reach, NLOWE connects women business owners in all regions of the province, and is currently aiming to create a more user-friendly online experience for its members, while continuing to implement exporting initiatives with a focus on promoting export awareness, readiness, and business skills development.

Fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation is important to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. As women business owners continue to work through the pandemic and the associated challenges that have come with it, entrepreneurial supports may be more important than ever.

Quotes
“Our government is proud to partner with NLOWE, and continue to support their work in business counselling, skills development, and market development. I commend NLOWE’s continued commitment to helping women entrepreneurs start, grow and advance successful businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Honourable Andrew Parsons
Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology

“The economic power of women entrepreneurs is not to be underestimated. NLOWE’s work ensures that women in business in Newfoundland and Labrador are able to reach their true potential. As the province navigates away from the challenges of the pandemic, this work is even more critical. The Office of Women and Gender Equality remains committed to working with NLOWE in supporting the economic empowerment of women across the province.”
Honourable Pam Parsons
Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality

“Each year, NLOWE provides advisory services to over 1,000 women business owners throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.  We would be unable to provide this level of service without the ongoing support of our Government partners, including the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. There are many barriers for women starting and growing businesses – NLOWE works with government and the women we serve to navigate and overcome these barriers to promote a more equitable environment for women in business.”
