As Newfoundland and Labrador reopens to increased social and economic activity in the weeks and months ahead, four tourism and hospitality businesses received approval for nearly $110,000 of support from the Provincial Government to enhance development opportunities.

Located on Pilley’s Island, Bumblebee Bight Inn and Brewery is a four star accommodation that provides an experience for those that travel to the hidden gems in Green Bay South. The company is approved for $71,501 to assist with extensive business and marketing development initiatives.

Established in 2018, Tight Loops Tight Lines is a guided salmon fishing experience hosted by Kastine Coleman and Terry Byrne. This company offers a complete guided experience, including lessons, guiding, accommodations and meals. To support the company’s wide-ranging marketing activities, Tight Loops Tight Lines is approved for $20,500 from the Business Development Support program.

Salty Bay Cabins is a small business located on the west end of the Terra Nova National Park in Traytown. The company is approved for $9,420 to assist with marketing initiatives to help promote their product, attracting visitors to increase the length of stay and to spend more in the region.

Killick Properties Ltd. operates the Killick Inn & Suites in Arnold’s Cove. In an effort to attract short-term vacations by tourists and business travellers, the company is approved for $8,512 to undertake several marketing initiatives, such as branding, signage, and development of guest information packages.

The addition of more people and program-based experiential tourism to existing infrastructure and activities is a priority for tourism development. Support for these projects demonstrates a focus on small businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador and contributes to the Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthen the province’s economic foundation.

Quotes
“As we move forward with our province’s re-opening plan ‘Together. Again’, we do so knowing that many small businesses in the tourism industry still need our support. Today’s announcement reflects our commitment to supporting economic development throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Honourable Andrew Parsons
Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology

“Local businesses, such as these, contribute to the overall experience for both residents and tourists visiting our province. As we prepare to welcome visitors back to Newfoundland and Labrador, it is vital that businesses are supported as they enhance and create quality experiences.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation

“We were extremely excited to work with the development team in regards to applying for and receiving the support of this program. We looked at several marketing initiatives and are happy that we are able to support each in our journey towards success. We have been able to put the support immediately to work and are becoming a strong community leader, a supporter of local initiatives and are successfully putting Green Bay South on the map.”

“The assistance that our government provides to help support marketing initiatives for tourism businesses like ours, is without a doubt, one of the contributing factors to growing our tourism industry in the province. Tourism operators are ambassadors for our province, and it is encouraging that our government invests in its ambassadors.  Without programs like the BDS program, many of these marketing initiatives would never exist, as the costs to carry them out make many projects unattainable.”
