Support from the Provincial Government will help a local innovative company identify, pursue and expand market opportunities nationally and internationally for its new smart air conditioning product.

During a recent tour of Mysa’s facility in St. John’s, the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology experienced a demonstration of the company’s innovative abilities, and congratulated the business on its continued focus on innovation and commitment to growth.

Empowered Homes Inc. (Mysa), was incorporated in 2014 with the goal to develop a programmable thermostat to minimize energy waste and lower unnecessary energy consumption. According to the company, existing programmable thermostats currently on market provide little benefit to the average homeowner.

Mysa is a mobile app enabled, Wi-Fi compatible, line voltage thermostat that combines a sleek design with innovative software to give users total control of their heating systems remotely. Its current product lineup consists of two smart thermostat products for electric heating systems: Mysa for Electric Baseboard Heaters and Mysa for Electric in-Floor Heating.

The company’s new product, Mysa for Air Conditioners, will cater to niche HVAC systems, including ductless mini-split heat pumps and portable air conditioning units. To assist with the promotion and market reach of the company’s new product, Mysa was approved for a non-repayable contribution of $100,000 from the Business Development Support program.

Mysa co-founders Joshua and Zachery Green have seen significant growth in the company’s employee base.  As of June 9, 2021, the company has 83 employees, up from 66 employees in 2020. Since 2016, the Provincial Government has supported Mysa with over $1,096,000, including two re-payable business loans. The company has repaid both business loans in full, and used the other contributions to assist with the development and marketing of their growing line of smart thermostat.

Investments in the province’s tech and innovation sector mean more jobs and a stronger economy for Newfoundland and Labrador.
