The tourism sector is a key economic driver and the Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada continue to ensure that tourism businesses, organizations and municipalities’ dependent on the sector, are resourced and ready for a strong, swift recovery.
That is why the Provincial Government, through the Department of Industry, Energy and Technology, and the Federal Government, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is working with the Town of Lumsden to increase the visitor experience for one of the regions beaches and build more competitive and resilient communities.
Today, the Honourable Derrick Bragg, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods and MHA for Fogo Island-Cape Freels, on behalf of the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, along with Churence Rogers, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity, on behalf of the Honorable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced a total investment of $530,782 for the Town of Lumsden to support upgrades to Lumsden North Beach to enhance visitor experience and increase capacity to welcome more tourists to the area.
This funding will help the town construct a small multi-purpose building with check-in services, washrooms and visitor information. The project will also include landscaping and signage, as well as the installation of accessibility mats on the beach to better accommodate visitors with mobility issues.
Today’s announcement demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to support strategic initiatives that build strong and inclusive Atlantic Canadian communities. Support for this activity also demonstrates the Provincial Government’s commitment to arts and culture, tourism, and social enterprise in Newfoundland and Labrador.
