December 21, 2021

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced approximately $123,700 for craft producers across the province.

The Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador estimates more than 700 craftspeople and related businesses operate in the province – approximately 400 of which are professional craft and gift producers. This includes traditional knitting, contemporary weaving and hand dyeing techniques, production pottery, one of a kind sculpture work, jewelry and glass making, wood working, and much more.

To assist craftspeople and businesses, as they enhance their business development skills, expand their markets and collaborate to increase their profitability, the Provincial Government announced support today from economic development programs, including:

  • $32,493 for Newbornlander to support new marketing activities;
  • $24,043 for Elizabeth Burry to attend wholesale shows;
  • $19,944 for Kara Lynn Design to support marketing activities and expansion;
  • $19,130 for Yorabode to support marketing initiatives and advancing skills through future training;
  • $8,353 for Wooly Tops to support e-commerce and marketing activities;
  • $8,343 for Christine Koch to assist with website upgrades and marketing materials;
  • $7,451 to the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador to support continued training in business, marketing and craft skills for craftspeople in Labrador;
  • $2,275 to Marie’s Knits to attend targeted craft shows; and.
  • $1,670 to Ewe Design to attend craft shows.

There are craft fair events happening across the province throughout the holiday season. As craftspeople and businesses have shown their versatility through the pandemic they continue to find new ways to be creative and bring unique gift experiences.

There are exciting events on the horizon as well – the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador will mark its 50th anniversary in 2022. Its Standards of Quality have helped raise the level of craft in Newfoundland and Labrador, making the province a destination for fine craft collectors.
