January 12, 2021

March is Multiculturalism Month, a time when communities throughout the province celebrate the rich diversity of cultures across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, Multiculturalism Month features a wide variety of events planned by organizations and municipalities, to celebrate cultural diversity in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Immigration, Skills and Labour, today called for proposals for projects and events for Multiculturalism Month 2021.

Eligible applicants include cultural groups and associations, established non-profit community organizations, municipal governments, public entities such as schools, and non-governmental entities such as regional development authorities. Complete eligibility and application guidelines, including COVID-19 considerations are available here.

Celebrating diversity, strengthening our sense of community, and ensuring all individuals feel a sense of belonging to Newfoundland and Labrador is critical to planning for future growth and meeting the 2022 target of increasing immigration to 2,500 new permanent residents annually.

Quote
“Everyone in Newfoundland and Labrador deserves to feel a sense of belonging in our province, and Multiculturalism Month is one of the many ways we can join with our communities to celebrate the diversity of our families, friends and neighbours. I encourage applicants to find creative ways to ensure fun, educational events can be enjoyed by people throughout the province, while adhering to COVID-19 protocols.”
