Interim Chief of Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Appointed

The Honourable John Hogan, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, today announced the appointment of Patrick Roche, as interim Chief of Police.

Mr. Roche began his career with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in 1985. Throughout his 36 years as a police officer, Mr. Roche has worked in the Patrol Services and Criminal Investigation Divisions. Most recently he was the Commanding Officer of Corner Brook and Labrador. A complete bio can be found in the backgrounder below.

Mr. Roche replaces Chief Joe Boland who announced his retirement effective July 31, 2021. He will assume his duties on August 1, 2021.

BACKGROUNDER

Biography of Patrick Roche

Patrick Roche joined the RNC in April 1985 and was a member until March 2021. He has extensive experience in patrol services as well as criminal investigations having worked in progressively responsible positions within the Patrol Services and Criminal Investigation Divisions.

Most recently he was the Commanding Officer of Corner Brook and Labrador regions of the RNC. During this time he enhanced working partnerships with community stakeholders such as the Qalipu First Nation and others.

Patrick has also served with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo with the international police force.
