Today, the Honourable Krista Lynn Howell, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs; Amy Coady-Davis, interim Chair of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador; and Brian Hudson, President of the Professional Municipal Administrators, signed a proclamation to designate May 17, 2021 as Municipal Awareness Day in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Municipal Awareness Day highlights the vital role that municipal councils and staff play in delivering services to residents in the province. Today is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the valuable work undertaken by municipalities and administrators to support strong communities.
Municipalities are in the process of preparing for safe and accessible municipal elections this fall. Residents are encouraged to get involved and to consider running on September 28.
Municipalities are invited to review information on mail-in voting for the elections provided by the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, as well as guidelines for election of a mayor.
