The Municipal Assessment Agency is pleased to announce the results of the recent election for six municipal representatives to its Board of Directors.
During the nomination period, there was only one candidate nominated for the position of Eastern Director. As a result, Councillor David Hiscock of Bonavista was elected as Eastern Director by acclamation.
“Fifteen candidates were nominated for the remaining five positions and 68 per cent of municipalities casted ballots“, said Nominating Committee chairperson Roger Barrett.
Elected for a four-year term, beginning January 2022, are:
Avalon
Mayor Betty Moore, Clarke’s Beach
Central
Mayor Tony Keats, Dover
Eastern
Councillor David Hiscock, Bonavista (Acclamation)
Labrador
Councillor Deborah Barney, L’Anse au Loup
Western
Councillor Amanda Freake, Deer Lake
The Urban election resulted in a two-way tie. A runoff election will be conducted in January 2022, between two candidates:
Deputy Mayor Mary Thorne-Gosse, Torbay
Councillor Andrew Little, Grand Falls-Windsor
“Thank you to all sixteen candidates who participated in this process and congratulations to the successful officials,” said Mr. Dean Ball, Board Chair.

The first meeting of the newly constituted Board is scheduled for February 22, 2022, in St. John’s.
