The Auditor General of Newfoundland and Labrador, Denise Hanrahan, today acknowledged and supported the proposed changes to the Act Respecting the Office of the Auditor General and the Auditing of the Public Accounts of the Province. If amended, the new Act will enhance the independence of the Office and support the Office’s mandate to promote accountability in government’s management and use of public resources.

Revisions to the Act will enhance the scope of the Office of the Auditor General’s work by making it the default auditor for all agencies of the Crown and Crown controlled corporations. The Auditor General will also be empowered to audit the use of government funds and will have access to all required records needed for financial and performance audits, including cabinet records.
