January 7, 2021

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation introduced the Artist Support Program in November 2020 to assist professional artists and musicians whose earnings have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this new short-term program, eligible applicants may receive a non-repayable, one-time contribution of up to $5,000.

To date, the program has received 260 applications and has paid out $1,025,000 to eligible applicants – and these numbers are still growing.

As part of the eligibility guidelines, applicants must meet the criteria of a professional artist, as outlined in the Status of the Artist Act. Eligible applicants must also have experienced a loss of at least 25 per cent in opportunities and earnings from their artistic activities since March 16, 2020.

The Artist Support Program is open to current residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, who are at least 18 years of age. The program will remain open until January 29, 2021.

Anyone interested in applying before the closing date is encouraged to visit here for more information.
