April 5, 2021

Newfoundland and Labrador artists are making their mark once again with recently announced nominations for the 2021 JUNO Awards. This year’s awards ceremony will be held through a virtual, televised broadcast on Sunday, May 16.

The accomplished list of local nominees are:

  • Rum Ragged – Traditional Roots Album of the Year
  • Matt Maher – Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the year
  • Florian Hoefner – Jazz Album of the Year
  • Matt Wright – Comedy Album of the Year

The JUNO Awards originated as the RPM Gold Leaf Awards in 1964, ultimately becoming the JUNO Awards in 1971. Since then, the JUNO Awards have evolved from an industry awards event to a week-long cross country travelling festival.

As the largest celebration of Canadian musical talent, this highly anticipated week has grown to encompass public-facing fan events, as well as industry/networking opportunities, featuring a diverse array of Canadian artists and emerging talent.

Quote
“I am excited to see four acts from Newfoundland and Labrador nominated for JUNO Awards in various categories this year. There is no shortage of talent in Newfoundland and Labrador and this incredible group of artists are just a few among many that contribute to our province’s cultural fabric. Congratulations to all!”
Honourable Bernard Davis
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation
