The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, in partnership with Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL), today announced plans for the implementation of a Tourism Industry Advocacy Campaign to be implemented and developed with the support of $300,000 in funding from the Provincial Government.

The campaign, a recommendation from the Premier’s Advisory Council on Tourism interim report released in March will assist with the recovery of the industry and promote the importance of the tourism industry to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

In addition, NL Tourism continues its rollout of marketing initiatives such as the ‘Stay Curious Campaign’ that launched last month – a campaign, which focuses on the concept of dream now, visit later.

The Premier’s Advisory Council on Tourism was established in January 2021 to provide recommendations on the sustainability, reopening, and recovery of the tourism sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Quotes
“Newfoundland and Labrador’s tourism industry is a vital economic driver that has been deeply impacted by the global pandemic. We must continue to support the industry, and with this recommendation we will work with Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador to ensure we take the necessary steps to promote the valuable experiences our province has to offer.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation

“The welcoming people who greet you, prepare your food, clean your room, provide your entertainment, create your experience and guide you throughout our province are the faces of tourism. These experience providers have been the ones most severely affected due to the impacts of the pandemic on the Tourism and Hospitality industry. They are your neighbours and friends, in every community in Newfoundland and Labrador. Tourism is important to preserve and promote our culture and heritage, but it also provides many families with good paying jobs. Tourism Counts”
Brenda O’Reilly
Chair, Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador

“There is no other industry in this province with a wider economic reach than tourism. We operate in urban and rural communities all over Newfoundland and Labrador, and our operators and employees contribute to their communities in meaningful ways every day. We are an industry essential to the fabric of our province’s culture, arts and economic vibrancy. This campaign will highlight the very people who are the foundation of these businesses and organizations.”
