Provincial Government Announces Appointments to The Rooms Corporation Board of Directors

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced three appointments to the Board of Directors of The Rooms Corporation.

Rowena House, Rick Mercer and Tauna Staniland have each been appointed for a three-year term. Biographical information for board members is available in the backgrounder below.

The Rooms is located in St. John’s with regional museums in Grand Bank, Grand Falls-Windsor and Northwest River. The primary objective of The Rooms Corporation is to collect, preserve, present, exhibit and make available for research the historic artifacts, natural history specimens and archival records that represent and illustrate the significant history, culture and natural heritage of the province.

These appointments were recommended though the merit-based Independent Appointments Commission.

BACKGROUNDER

Biographical Information for Appointees to The Rooms Corporation

Rowena House
Rowena House was born and raised in Labrador, and is currently living on the Avalon Peninsula. Ms. House has been sitting on boards in the business and tourism industry since 2009. She is currently the Executive Director of the Craft Council as well as a board member for the Atlantic Craft Alliance and the Quidi Vidi Plantation.

Rick Mercer
Rick Mercer was raised in Newfoundland and Labrador and has worked in Canada as a professional artist for over 30 years. Mr. Mercer has worked in both theatre and television and has always been a passionate supporter of Newfoundland and Labrador visual art.

Tauna Staniland
Tauna Staniland is a practicing lawyer who graduated at the top of her class. Ms. Staniland has significant experience providing advice to boards of directors and shareholders and has served in a director capacity for nine years. Ms. Staniland currently resides on the Avalon Peninsula where she is a partner at Stewart McKelvey.
