Reappointments to the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced six reappointments to the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador board.

Lisa Daly, David Lough, James Miller, Elizabeth Murphy, Sarah Wade and Philip Wood have been reappointed for three-year terms effective immediately. Biographical information is available in the backgrounder below.

The Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador is an agency created under the Historic Resources Act. The objects of the foundation are: to stimulate an understanding of and an appreciation for the architectural heritage of the province; to support and contribute to the preservation, maintenance and restoration of buildings and other structures of architectural or historical significance in the province; and to contribute to the increase and diffusion of knowledge about the architectural heritage of the province.

These appointments were made through the merit-based process under the Independent Appointments Commission Act.

BACKGROUNDER

Biographies of members of the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador board.

Lisa Daly
Residing in St. John’s, Ms. Daly holds a PhD from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador where she studied Aviation Archaeology and WWII Newfoundland and Labrador. She has been involved in some policy creation in relation to the Second World War material culture, on the landscape of Newfoundland and Labrador, and has worked with a variety of organizations. Ms. Daly also has experience working in the tourism industry within the St. John’s area for over a decade.

David Lough
Mr. Lough has worked extensively in Newfoundland and Labrador in a number of key positions with the Federal, Provincial and Nunatsiavut Governments over a period of more than forty years. He has been an active member of the community, sitting on multiple boards.

James Miller
Mr. Miller resides in Trinity and is the General Manager, Project Coordinator and Archivist for the Trinity Historical Society. He has served on a number of volunteer boards both locally and provincially and is currently the mayor of the town of Trinity.

Elizabeth Murphy
As an educator, Ms. Murphy spearheaded the development of the first community based economuseum in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as the establishment in 1996 of one of the first social enterprises on the Burin Peninsula. She also organized one of the first Heritage Fairs within the Newfoundland and Labrador School districts. Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Murphy has received several awards, including the Provincial Award for Community Service and the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

Sarah Wade
Ms. Wade is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as Algonquin College with a focus on Archaeology, History and Museum Studies. She has worked at the Museum Association of Newfoundland and Labrador for many years and has had the opportunity to interact with heritage societies, museums, archives and town council members.

Philip Wood
Mr. Wood served as a school administrator for 30 years in Newfoundland and Labrador. He also served as President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 32, Bay Roberts and is currently the mayor of the Town of Bay Roberts.
