Minister Crocker Announces Appointments to the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced three new board appointments to the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (ArtsNL).

Ann Connors, David Reynolds and Shawn O’Hagan have been appointed for three-year terms. Biographical information for board members is available in the backgrounder below.

ArtsNL is a Crown corporation created under the Arts Council Act to foster and promote the production of works in the arts. Board members are appointed on the basis of sectoral representation of the arts community, with artistic disciplines represented by music, theatre, visual arts, writing, dance and film. In addition, as per the Act, the Board has two community representatives with an interest in the arts.

The three individuals appointed today will fill the theatre representative (Ann Connors), the writing representative (David Reynolds) and the visual arts representative (Shawn O’Hagan).

These appointments were made through the merit-based Independent Appointments Commission Act.

BACKGROUNDER

Biographies for Appointees to the ArtsNL Board of Directors

Ann Connors
Ms. Connors has many years of experience in the arts sector as an administrator, producer and presenter in the performing arts. Ms. Connors serves on the Board of Directors of the Association for Professional Theatres Newfoundland and Labrador and is an active member of both the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs and the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres.

David Reynolds
Mr. Reynolds is an author, editor, and publisher, becoming a published writer at age eleven. Mr. Reynolds studied at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUN) holding a B.A in English and Philosophy and a Masters Degree in Humanities. Currently, he is an English professor at MUNL and is an active member of the Writer’s Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Shawn O’Hagan
Ms. O’Hagan has been a practicing artist for over 40 years, holding a BFA, an MFA and a B. Ed in Art Education. She has taught at a variety of levels at Grenfell Campus, and is currently a working artist exhibiting locally and throughout other regions in Canada. Ms. O’Hagan has served on many boards and committees, including the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador and Eastern Edge Gallery.
