Public Advisory: Update on Ferry Service for Fogo Island-Change Islands-Farewell

  • Transportation and Infrastructure

May 14, 2021

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is working to restore ferry service to Fogo Island and Change Islands.

While repairs are ongoing, the fixed wing and helicopter service remain in effect. Residents who wish to arrange flights are encouraged to contact 709-256-1048.

Officials expect the Legionnaire to begin sea trials this evening. Depending on the result of the sea trials, and permission from Transport Canada, the Legionnaire could return to service.

In the event that the Legionnaire is not permitted to return to service, the department has engaged Labrador Marine Inc. to provide temporary service using the Kamutik W. That vessel is on route from St. Barbe and is expected to arrive at Fogo Island tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 15). The Kamutik W will pick up the service until repairs to the Legionnaire are complete. This will not interfere with the start of service to the North Coast of Labrador in June.

Details on intra-provincial ferry information, including schedules, is available by visiting www.gov.nl.ca/ti/ferryservices/.
