Public Advisory: Speed Limit Reduced on Trans-Canada Highway at Central Newfoundland Bridge

  • Transportation and Infrastructure

July 9, 2021

The speed limit has been reduced on the Aspen Brook Bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately 20 kilometres west of Grand Falls-Windsor.

As crews from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure assess the bridge structure, the speed limit has been reduced to 30 km/h.

Motorists are advised to pay close attention to traffic control and be prepared to slow down.

The department’s Chief Bridge Engineer has recommended the bridge be replaced and traffic can safely continue at a reduced speed limit.

Planning has begun on work for its replacement and the department anticipates issuing a tender later this month for a road diversion around the bridge. Updates will be provided as more information become available.

Additional details on this project and other highway construction projects are available on www.nl511.ca and the NL 511 smartphone app.
