November 26, 2021

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is providing an update today, (Friday, November 25) on progress to repairs to highways damaged in southwestern Newfoundland.

The department anticipates construction work on the Trans-Canada Highway to be ongoing for more than a week due to the number of damaged sections in the region. Updates will be provided as work progresses.

Contractors have begun installing culverts at Overbrook Falls and backfilling has begun. Contractors also continue to prepare other damaged areas for culverts that have been delivered to the region.

Repairs to Route 463 at Black Duck Brook have been completed at the road reopened Thursday (November 25).

Lock Lomond Road and Upper Ferry Road in the Codroy Valley remain open with lane closures.

Highways at eight locations in the Codroy Valley remain closed due to damage or high water levels, with alternate routes available for many highways:

  • Station Road, Doyles;
  • Andrew’s Road;
  • Ranger Road;
  • O’Regan’s Line Road;
  • Block Road;
  • Andrews;
  • Seartson; and
  • Cape Anguille.

Crews continue to monitor and assess infrastructure in the region. Motorists are urged to avoid the areas to allow contractors to complete work as quickly as possible.

Additional details on the closures and other highway construction projects are available on www.nl511.ca and the NL 511 smartphone app.
