December 1, 2021

The 35th annual Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration will take place tomorrow (Thursday, December 2), beginning at 5:30 p.m. in St. John’s in the lobby of East Block, Confederation Building.

The Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Elvis Loveless, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, will join 8 year old Jaxon Donnan and family to activate the lights on Confederation Hill. Entertainment will be provided by Rachel Cousins and Holy Heart of Mary Choir.

The Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration is an annual event where each province and territory decorates its capital city and holds its own lighting ceremony. At the event, approximately 60,000 LED lights will illuminate the Confederation Building Christmas tree and other trees along Prince Philip Drive. The initiative contributes to a nationwide effort to symbolically link Canadians together for the holiday season.

This event will be livestreamed to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Facebook page and on YouTube.

Due to the number of performers and related guests, there is limited space inside the lobby and attendees may watch from outside. The lights will be activated at 6:15 p.m.

NLVaxPass requirements will be in place for attendees who enter the building.
