The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Wych Hazel Pond Goat and Crop Farm                       (Reg. 2188)
Proponent: Salty Creeks Agricultural Enterprise

The proponent plans to raise commercial goats and produce cole crops on agricultural land located adjacent to Wych Hazel Pond, within the Town of Conception Bay South and City of St. John’s. Access to the site is available by gravel road from the Trans-Canada Highway near Thomas Pond. The project would require construction of a steel framed fabric building for the barn to house the goats, a concrete manure pad, and electric wire fencing. Slaughtering and butchering will not take place on-site and the proponent will use a local third-party for these activities. Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2022. The undertaking was registered on February 17, 2022; the deadline for public comment is March 24, 2022; and, the minister’s decision is due by April 3, 2022.

Rocky Pond Quarry                                                           (Reg. 2187)
Proponent: Parson’s Paving Ltd.

The proponent proposes a 25-hectare quarry and mobile asphalt plant approximately 800 metres east of Rocky Pond near the Foxtrap Access Road and Trans-Canada Highway Junction within the municipal planning boundary of the City of St. John’s. The project includes the construction of an access road from the Foxtrap Access Road to the quarry area, phased quarry development, and the operation of an asphalt plant. The undertaking was registered on February 16, 2022; the deadline for public comment is March 24, 2022; and, the minister’s decision is due by April 2, 2022.
