New Chair Appointed to the Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister Responsible for Labour, today announced the appointment of David Lewis as Chairperson of the Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel.

Mr. Lewis will replace Mr. Wayne Follett who resigned on February 25. Mr. Lewis’ appointment is effective for the remainder of the current term, which ends on January 9, 2023.

Established in 2006, the Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel is responsible for annually identifying, in consultation with stakeholders, particular fish species for collective bargaining; collecting and disseminating market information; establishing parameters for negotiations; facilitating collective bargaining; setting hearings; and where necessary, acting as an arbitration panel in setting fish prices when the parties have been unable to agree.

BACKGROUNDER

Biographical Information for David Lewis

David Lewis is a retired provincial government Deputy Minister who has worked with Newfoundland and Labrador’s fish harvesters and processors for over 40 years. Mr. Lewis has served in many capacities with the Provincial Government including Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Fisheries Branch as well as in other executive positions throughout government.  He also worked with the Fisheries Association of Newfoundland and Labrador as Executive Assistant to the President, and with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a biological research technician. Mr. Lewis has a Masters of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science (Honours), and Bachelor of Education from Memorial University.
