At today’s opening of the EV Resource and Learning Centre, the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change announced $77,900 for a new electric vehicle outreach project, to be provided by Drive Electric NL.

Through this innovative project, Drive Electric NL will help bring the electric vehicle experience to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Drive Electric NL will offer information sessions to potential owners before purchase and offer test drives with an electric vehicle to experience driving one first-hand. The organization also plans to visit participating schools throughout the province to present an electric vehicle ‘show and tell’ session for students.

Established in 2018, Drive Electric NL is a not-for profit organization created to educate individuals and businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador on the benefits of electric vehicle ownership and related opportunities.

Through Budget 2022, the Provincial Government is investing an additional $1 million for electric vehicle charging infrastructure and $900,000 for electric vehicle incentives, which includes a $2,500 rebate for consumers who purchase or lease an all-electric vehicle and a $1,500 rebate for the purchase or lease of a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Quotes
“Driving an electric vehicle is the way of the future and the Provincial Government is pleased to support Drive Electric NL and this great project. We all share a goal of a cleaner, healthier environment and every action we take to lower greenhouse gas emissions matters. Purchasing or leasing an electric vehicle is becoming more frequent and this new initiative will provide invaluable information and the opportunity for a hands-on experience driving an EV.”
Honourable Bernard Davis
Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister Responsible for Labour

“Using an electric vehicle for your daily driving saves your family money, lowers your impact on the environment, and is a lot more fun to drive. Drive Electric NL wants more people of the province to see how well an electric vehicle can work for them, and we are excited with the opportunity this funding will provide to do that.”
