The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, announces the following relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act:

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Pinware River Access Road and Cottage                                          
(Reg. 2212)
Proponent: Alexander O’Brien

The proponent is proposing to construct an access road and recreational cottage near the Pinware River, approximately six kilometres north of the Town of Pinware, off Route 510. The proposed 150-metre road is required to access the proponent’s cottage grant acquired in 2017. The project would require vegetation clearing and grubbing, and cottage construction would include installation of a drilled well and waste disposal system. The project is estimated to take 12-15 months to complete. A description of the project can be found on the department’s webpage at:

The undertaking was registered on August 17, 2022. The deadline for public comments is September 22, 2022; and the minister’s decision is due by October 1, 2022.

Sexton’s Road Snowmobile Trail Re-Route                                       (Reg. 2213)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Association Inc.

The proponent is proposing to re-route an existing Discovery Trails Snowmobille Association trail located near Sexton’s Road, south of Port Blandford. The new section of trail would be approximately four kilometres in length and would by-pass wetland areas near the current route. Construction upgrades include widening the trail for safer operations of snowmobiles and maintenance equipment. Appleton Mineral Exploration – Seismic Survey and Trenching  (Reg. 2214)
Proponent: New Found Gold Corp.

The proponent is proposing to conduct mineral exploration in the form of a seismic survey and trenching. The seismic survey would be completed over an area of 48 square kilometres, while the trenching would have a total exposed area of less than 8000 square metres. The activity would include 269 kilometres of line cutting, with gridlines of 1.75 – 2.75 metres in width to allow for access of vehicles to complete the seismic survey. The proposed trench would be 210 metres long and 10-70 metres wide, with a total estimated volume of 40,000 cubic metres of material removed.
