  • Environment and Climate Change

November 24, 2022

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Environmental protection plan approved:

ATV/Argo Trails for Red Indian Lake Outfitting                                 (Reg. 1805)
Proponent: Red Indian Lake Outfitting

The Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) is approved, subject to the following conditions:

  • The Proponent must uphold all commitments made in the environmental assessment submissions to mitigate the effects of the Project on the environment.
  • The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture requires that the EPP be implemented in a phased approach that will enable the Proponent to access Saddler Lake Lodge and Alex Pond Lodge as a first phase of trail development. The Proponent must submit the following information for the approval of the Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture, prior to trail construction:
    • ground-truthed digital GPS routes outlining access trails to the Saddler Lake Lodge and to the Alex Pond Lodge;
    • details on stream crossings (e.g. width of stream, stream bank information with photo documentation preferred);
    • proposed measures to mitigate potential adverse environmental effects associated with each stream crossing;
    • the location and length of wetland crossings;
    • proposed measures to mitigate potential adverse environmental effects associated with wetland crossings, with consideration given to the sensitive wildlife periods (e.g. caribou calving and marten denning) for vegetation clearing and ground work; and
    • Crown land application numbers for each trail. For more information, please contact the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture at (709) 637-2500.
