The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Education is recognizing Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, February 13 – 19, in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, initiated by the Canadian Home and School Federation in 1988, recognizes the work of teachers, early childhood educators, administrators and school staff who are committed to children and their education. This year’s theme is “Come Celebrate With Us.”

Newfoundland and Labrador is home to more than 10,500 permanent and casual school staff working as teachers, administrators and support staff throughout the province’s school system. Supporting teachers and staff delivers on recommendations in the Education Action Plan to build an educational community in Newfoundland and Labrador that fosters safe, caring and inclusive learning environments for all children and youth.

The Education Action Plan has provided a roadmap to improve educational outcomes. With 80 per cent of actions either completed or substantially underway and $42 million invested over the last three years, the department is steadily making improvements to the K-12 system.

Quotes
“I sincerely thank all teachers, administrators and support staff who have been working hard to provide a safe and caring environment for students each and every day and I thank them for their hard work and commitment to safely and effectively navigating the pandemic. Every day teachers and school staff touch the lives of thousands of students, and their work extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. This week, I encourage students, families and school communities to let teachers, educators, administrators and school staff know their work and dedication is highly valued now more than ever.”

“Administrators, educators and support staff throughout the province have always put students first as they focused on teaching and learning and the development of young people. Their professionalism, dedication and ability to adapt and adjust have never been more evident than during the pandemic. I sincerely thank them for their efforts, this week and every week, as we continue to focus on the education and well-being of everyone within our schools”.

“As we celebrate Teacher and Staff appreciation Week, I would like to thank all CSFP teachers, educators, administrators, support staff and bus drivers. Their engagement and efforts have positively impacted the lives of students, especially during the pandemic. Whether in-class or virtually, the CSFP employees have proven to be committed to our mission to educate our youth and encourage them to appreciate their francophone identity while providing a safe and inclusive environment. In the last year, the CSFP has managed to carry out many projects successfully, and this could have never happened without their support. I commend them for their readiness, resilience and hard work.”

“My sincerest appreciation to our dedicated teachers and school staff during this very meaningful week. The pandemic and the months of learning at home have made us realize just how much our teachers and school staff do for our children. They have consistently stepped in, stepped up, and overcome many obstacles to ensure learning continued and students were safe during this pandemic. We are so thankful for the resilience, passion, and strength they have shown – and for the care, encouragement and guidance they give to our children every day. Our teachers and school staff play a critical role in the lives of our children and deserve to know how much they are appreciated.”
