February 16, 2022

Applications are now being accepted for the K-12 Teachers Reading Bursary Program.

The reading bursary provides funding that teachers may use to recover course costs and related expenses for successfully completing pre-approved bursary-eligible courses. The deadline for winter applications is February 28.

The Reading Bursary Program is available for teachers and administrators enrolled in the graduate diploma program in Education and the new Master of Education in Reading Development and Instruction at Memorial University of Newfoundland. More information on the bursary program, including the application form, can be found here, or by emailing readingbursary@gov.nl.ca.

Enhancing reading is a key ongoing focus area of Education Action Plan. Since 2018, more than $250,000 has been invested in professional learning opportunities for educators, including $50,000 in reading bursaries for almost 100 K-12 teachers.

Quote
“Investing in professional development will result in teachers deepening their understanding of reading development to better support classroom-wide instruction, including the instruction of children who experience reading difficulty, a key focus area of the Education Action Plan. I encourage teachers pursuing the Graduate Diploma to apply.”
Honourable Tom Osborne
Minister of Education
