Public Advisory: Mandatory Vaccination Policy Remains in Effect for Provincial Public Service Employees

On Wednesday, February 16, Public Health announced a phased approach to lifting long-term public health restrictions. Since that announcement, there have been questions about how this impacts the province’s mandatory vaccination policy for provincial public service employees and those who work with them. Public service employees are advised that the mandatory vaccination policy remains in effect, and will continue to be in effect following the planned lifting of public health restrictions on March 14.

The policy was implemented in an effort to ensure continued safety in the workplace, as well as to ensure additional health protection for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians given the evidence of the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine.

All Newfoundlanders and Labradorians must be aware that COVID-19 is still very much a reality in our community and our province’s high vaccination rates are an important factor in being able to transition to learning to live with the disease. With this in mind, mandatory vaccines for public service employees will continue to be a part of government’s plan to manage COVID-19 in the workplace.

Public service employees with questions about the policy can call 709-729-7690 or email HRclientServiceCentre@gov.nl.ca.
