The Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, advises that the Speaker of the House of Assembly referred a report from the Office of the Citizens’ Representative of Newfoundland and Labrador to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council just before close of business yesterday (Monday, June 6).

Government also received an accompanying letter from the Speaker containing a detailed analysis of the report, as well as a letter from the Speaker to the Attorney General in which the Speaker asks the Attorney General to consider matters related to the public disclosure of the report.

The Premier intends to publicly release the documents. They have been sent to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for review and analysis to ensure personal information of complainants is protected in the public release.

Government will refer the documents to the House Management Commission, which is composed of members representing all parties in the House of Assembly, for consideration and recommendations if required, as statutory offices are within the purview of the House of Assembly.

Premier Furey and the Honourable John Hogan, QC, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will be available to media at 3:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, June 7) outside the House of Assembly.
