The following statement was issued today from the Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador:

“On behalf of the people of the province, I offer condolences to the Royal Family on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Throughout her reign, Her Majesty was a constant figure in the life of Canadians, sharing in some of the most memorable and proud moments in history. She devoted her life to offering leadership in times of uncertainty, hardship and change.

Her Majesty exemplified the true meaning of service to Canadians and her memory will live on as a reminder of tireless service and dedication.

Earlier this year we were extremely fortunate to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. It was an opportunity to reflect on the past 70 years and how the Queen served our Commonwealth and province by honouring our most cherished values of unity, peace and freedom.

Flags at provincial government buildings across the province are being flown at half-mast in Her Majesty’s honour.”
