Snowmobiling is an important feature of Newfoundland and Labrador’s winter tourism product, which impacts regional economic development opportunities.

At an event today in Corner Brook, the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, on behalf of the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, announced a contribution of $495,000 to allow the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation (NLSF) to upgrade equipment and directional signage to improve the snowmobile trail network. The Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced $495,000 through the Innovative Communities Fund for the project. NLSF is also investing $516,000 towards this project.

These improvements will strengthen the snowmobiling industry and further enhance the province’s winter tourism products.

The NLSF plays a key role in delivering a quality product, grooming an extensive trail network of over 3,300 kilometres. Working closely with local snowmobile clubs on the island, the Federation ensures a trail network is maintained to a high standard.

With 17 member based clubs, the Federation is a not-for-profit organization based in Deer Lake. It is dedicated to the enhancement of organized snowmobiling through such means as trail development, safety, public education and advocacy.
