Project funding announced today by the Provincial Government will support two economic development partners in the Labrador Straits to enhance opportunities in the region.

To accommodate more visitors to view its North Atlantic Right Whale skeleton exhibit, the Town of Red Bay received approval of $75,000 to assist with its relocation to the town’s waterfront building. This will allow the town to create a more user friendly, interactive and educational experience around the exhibit, especially in the ongoing research around protecting the endangered North Atlantic Right Whale. Red Bay was designated a National Historic Site in 1978, and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.

The Southern Labrador Development Association plays an important role in economic and social development in communities between L’Anse au Clair and Red Bay. To improve and promote its existing services, the association received approval of $7,188 to assist with the development of a new interactive website and revised logo. This support will help them promote opportunities for increased collaboration and membership for businesses, communities and organizations in the region.

Utilizing the Regional Development Fund, support for these projects builds on the Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthen the province’s economic foundation.
