Call for Proposals: Growing Multiculturalism in Newfoundland and Labrador

January 14, 2022

In support of the 2026 provincial immigration target, and in recognition of March being officially regarded as Multiculturalism Month, the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills, today called for proposals for the Newfoundland and Labrador Multiculturalism Grant Program. This year the program will also be expanded to encourage cultural organizations to showcase and share their diversity.

Multiculturalism is growing in Newfoundland and Labrador. This growth gives us the opportunity to share unique experiences and traditions; an intercultural exchange that increases the vibrancy and connectedness of our communities. Increasing multiculturalism is also helping to foster welcoming and inclusive communities for newcomers, something that is essential to growing the provincial population in the years ahead.

Eligible applicants include cultural groups and associations, established non-profit community organizations, municipal governments, public entities such as schools, and non-governmental entities such as regional development authorities. Complete eligibility and application guidelines, including COVID-19 considerations are available here.

The submission of applications for funding will be received and assessed on a continuous intake basis. As such, there is no closing date for the 2021-22 NLMGP.

However, due to the limited amount of allocated funding for this program, organizations are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for any event or activity planned to take place before March 31, 2022. Funding requests for 2022-23 will be considered in the next fiscal year.

Today’s request for proposals will assist the province in reaching the ambitious goal of welcoming 5,100 newcomers annually by 2026, and in positioning Newfoundland and Labrador as a national leader on immigration settlement and retention.

Quote
“Our province wins when we celebrate the diverse communities and cultures of the people of who call Newfoundland and Labrador home. One of the highlights of my time as minister has been enjoying and exploring the many cultures of our province and I look forward to the many more experiences that will come from the organizations and municipalities that answer the call for proposals.”
