New Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Chief of Police Appointed

The Honourable John Hogan QC, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, is pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick Roche as Chief of Police for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

Chief Roche began his career with the RNC in 1985. Throughout his 36 years as a police officer, his experience and work with the community has led him to leadership roles within the organization. Mr. Roche has worked in the Patrol Services, Criminal Investigation Divisions and as Commanding Officer of Corner Brook and Labrador. A complete bio can be found in the backgrounder below.

Patrick Roche has been serving as the Interim Chief of Police since August 1, 2021.

Minister Hogan and Chief Roche will be available to media today (Tuesday, February 1) at 11:30 a.m. at RNC Provincial Headquarters, Fort Townshend, St. John’s.

BACKGROUNDER

Biography of Patrick Roche

Patrick Roche joined the RNC in April 1985 and was a member until March 2021. He has extensive experience in patrol services as well as criminal investigations having worked in progressively responsible positions within the Patrol Services and Criminal Investigation Divisions.

Prior to being appointed as interim Chief of Police, he was the Commanding Officer of Corner Brook and Labrador regions of the RNC. During this time he enhanced working partnerships with community stakeholders such as the Qalipu First Nation and others.

Roche has also served with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo with the international police force.
