The Municipal Assessment Agency (MAA) is pleased to announce that Deputy Mayor Mary Thorne-Gosse of Torbay has been elected Urban Director to its Board of Directors.

In December 2021, the MAA’s election process for the Urban Regional Director resulted in a two-way tie between two candidates.  Ballots for the runoff election were received up to and including January 27, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.  “The election process was very successful and 81.82% of municipalities cast ballots”, said Roger Barrett, Chairperson of the Nominating Committee.

Ms. Thorne-Gosse retired after thirty-five years of work and management experience with various federal government departments and agencies.  She was re-elected Deputy Mayor with the Town of Torbay in September 2021, after serving several terms as Councillor and Deputy Mayor.  Mary also serves on several other Boards and Committees.  The new Board member will serve a four year-term on the MAA’s Board of Directors, effective immediately.

“I am very excited to join the Municipal Assessment Agency’s Board of Directors and look forward to serving municipal clients throughout the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  I would like to thank all municipalities in the urban region for their vote and support”, said Deputy Mayor Thorne-Gosse.

“Thank you to all candidates who participated in the Agency’s election process and congratulations to the successful officials,” said Don Hearn, Executive Director/CEO.
