ParticipACTION True North Challenge Encourages Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to Get Active

January 31, 2022

On February 7, ParticipACTION will launch its True North Challenge. To register, people have to sign-up as a team of two to eight members through the free ParticipACTION app. The app is available for download through Apple or Google Play stores.

Once registered, teams are encouraged to participate in as much physical activity as possible for the duration of the challenge. Once teams reach various physical activity milestones, participants are entered to win a series of national prizes. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the challenge. The True North Challenge runs until February 21, 2022.

The True North Challenge aligns with the ‘Everything Gets Better’ campaign, launched earlier this month as a partnership between ParticipACTION and the Provincial Government. Similar to the True North Challenge, the ‘Everything Gets Better’ campaign raises awareness about the physical and mental health benefits of increased physical activity and reduced sedentary behavior. Both initiatives encourage people of all ages to move more at work, school and play in support of active healthy lifestyles.

Quotes
“An active life is a healthier life. The True North Challenge encourages people to find ways to get more movement into their lives. I encourage everyone to take part and get moving this winter, whether it is outside in the great outdoors or inside in the comfort of your very own home. It’s been said before and it’s true. Everything gets better when you get active.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation

“True North arrives at the perfect time to help us beat the winter blues through physical activity. Getting active can help boost your mood and lower your stress, making it an essential part of our mental health toolkits. Remember that all movement counts for the challenge – whether it’s walking, wheeling, shoveling snow, dancing in your kitchen or tobogganing!”
